      About Us

AlphaTutors is an online English learning platform for Chinese children. We combine English teaching resources from the UK, a structured curriculum, and an SRS spaced repetition system to help children build the ability to use English in real situations, starting from basic sentence structures, listening response, and spoken expression.

Our courses are not simply casual foreign-teacher conversation lessons, nor are they traditional English lessons that only focus on textbooks. We want to help children truly understand, say, and use the words, sentences, and grammar they have learned.

More Than Ten Years of Experience Teaching Chinese Students

We officially began teaching English in 2011. In the early years, we ran offline English classes in China. Through long-term contact with Chinese students and parents, we gradually developed a clear understanding of the common problems Chinese children face when learning English.

Many children have learned vocabulary and grammar at school and can complete written exercises, but when they hear an English question, they often cannot respond quickly. Some children can read and understand sentences, but they are afraid to speak. Others have learned many grammar rules, but they cannot use them naturally in real speech.

Because of these years of teaching experience, we gradually designed a course system that is more suitable for Chinese children. It combines basic grammar, listening input, spoken question-and-answer practice, story reading, and after-class review. This allows children to build their English ability slowly and steadily within a clear, structured, and repeated learning system.

Over the years, many students have started learning with us from zero or weak foundations. Gradually, they have become able to understand classroom questions, answer in English, and express simple ideas around stories and topics. Some children have even been able to use English during overseas travel or real communication situations to help their families. These long-term results have made us even more certain that children's listening and speaking ability does not improve suddenly after one or two lessons. It requires structure, repetition, and long-term accumulation.

A Course System Designed for Chinese Children

The AlphaTutors course is divided into different stages. Each stage has clear learning goals, helping children move step by step from basic expression to richer and more natural English use.

      Stage One: Building the Foundation

Stage One is mainly suitable for children with zero foundation or a weak foundation. This stage focuses on helping children build basic sentence structures, grammar concepts, listening response, and spoken expression.

The course combines basic grammar with spoken English practice. For example, children learn be verbs, yes/no questions, wh-questions, singular and plural forms, the present continuous tense, the simple present tense, and other essential structures. We do not simply ask children to memorise rules. Instead, through many simple sentences and classroom questions, children gradually understand how these grammar points are used in real communication.

The goal of this stage is to help children become willing to speak, understand simple questions, and gradually answer in complete sentences.

Stage Two: Story Reading Combined with New Concept English

From Stage Two, the course begins to include short stories and content from New Concept English. We do not simply teach the text in the traditional way. Instead, we take out the key vocabulary, sentence structures, and expressions from the text and stories, and combine them with pictures, audio, and classroom questioning, so that children can truly use the language.

Students receive supporting PDF short story materials, and they can also preview related sentences, keywords, and story content on the website. During class, the teacher asks questions based on these materials and guides children to understand the questions and answer in English.

The focus of this stage is not only to read the text. The goal is for children to understand the story and then develop listening response, spoken answers, and simple retelling.

      Stage Three: Language Island Courses

After children have built a more stable foundation in basic sentences and story learning, we introduce different topic-based language islands.

Each language island is a relatively complete topic world, such as school, family, animals, nature, history, geography, science, travel, and city life. Children do not simply memorise isolated words. Instead, they learn related vocabulary, sentences, and expressions within a specific topic.

As more and more language islands are gradually connected, children's range of expression becomes richer. They can move from answering simple questions to expressing more complete ideas around a topic.

Stage Four: Higher-Level Expression and Exam Preparation

For older students or students with a stronger foundation, the course can continue towards higher-level expression. This may include longer reading comprehension, opinion expression, preparation for middle school and high school English, overseas communication skills, and foundation-level IELTS training.

Our goal is not to make every child follow exactly the same path. Instead, we arrange suitable learning stages according to each child's age, foundation, and learning goals.

      The SRS Spaced Repetition System

One important feature of AlphaTutors is that we not only provide classroom teaching, but also have our own functional learning website and SRS spaced repetition system.

Students can prepare before class on the website by previewing stories, sentences, keywords, and audio. After class, they can continue reviewing what they have learned through the system.

The SRS system helps children review words and sentences repeatedly according to memory patterns, reducing the problem of learning and then quickly forgetting. The system includes not only the original story text, but also different example sentences generated around the keywords, helping children understand how one word can be used in different sentence contexts.

In this way, children's learning is not limited to a 45-minute or 1-hour lesson. Instead, it forms a complete learning cycle:

      • Pre-class preparation
      • Classroom listening and speaking interaction
      • After-class review
      • Keyword extension
      • Repeated listening, reading aloud, and consolidation

Through this method, children can build vocabulary, sentences, and expression ability more steadily.

      Our Classroom Method

Our classes focus on listening and speaking training, but we also place strong importance on grammar and sentence structure.

In class, the teacher asks many questions based on the stories, sentences, and keywords that the child has already prepared. The child needs to understand the teacher's questions and try to answer in English. The teacher then guides, corrects, and extends the child's answers.

This method helps children gradually turn English that they can "read and understand" into English that they can "hear, understand, and say".

We want children not only to read a story, but also to answer questions about it. We want them not only to know the meaning of a word, but also to use it in different sentences. We want them not only to learn grammar rules, but also to use grammar naturally in spoken English.

UK Teachers and Teaching Quality Management

AlphaTutors is designed and managed by teachers with many years of experience teaching Chinese students.

Edward has many years of English teaching experience and has also taught in China. He has a strong understanding of Chinese students' learning patterns, classroom reactions, and common difficulties. He understands the problems Chinese children often face when learning English, and he is skilled at using questions, guidance, and interaction to help children gradually speak more confidently.

At the same time, we work with excellent university students and graduates from a number of UK universities, including Southampton, Bristol, Cardiff, Birmingham, and others. When selecting teachers, we look carefully at their clarity of pronunciation, communication skills, warmth, sense of responsibility, and ability to interact with children in class.

Our partner teachers do not simply teach casually. We provide unified course materials and teaching training. We also continue to monitor teaching quality, listen to parent feedback, and adjust course arrangements according to each child's actual level.

Our goal is to allow children to learn in a stable, prepared, and feedback-based classroom environment, rather than simply arranging a teacher for casual conversation.

Who Our Courses Are Suitable For

      • Children with zero foundation or a weak foundation who need to build their English systematically.
      • Children who have learned some English but are slow to respond when listening and are afraid to speak.
      • Children who can read some words and sentences but lack the ability to express themselves in complete sentences.
      • Children who are learning New Concept English, school English, or basic grammar, but need more listening and speaking output practice.
      • Children who want to build listening, speaking, and topic-based vocabulary in the primary school years.
      • Students who may need English for overseas travel, international communication, middle school and high school English improvement, or IELTS preparation in the future.

We pay particular attention to a common problem among Chinese children: they may have learned a lot of English, but when they really need to speak, they do not know how to express themselves. Our courses are designed to help children turn what they have learned into real language ability.

What We Want Children to Achieve

Through long-term learning, we hope children will gradually develop the following abilities:

      • To understand English questions from the teacher.
      • To answer questions in complete sentences.
      • To express simple ideas around stories and pictures.
      • To truly use the vocabulary and grammar they have learned.
      • To build their own range of expression across different topics.
      • To gradually develop confidence in speaking English.
      • To move from passively learning English to actively using English.

English learning does not depend only on memorising words, nor does it depend only on listening to the teacher during class. Effective learning requires a clear course system, suitable materials, continuous review, and a large amount of real language use.

Through our courses, website system, and UK teacher resources, AlphaTutors aims to help Chinese children build English ability that they can genuinely use, step by step.
